Temporary Foster Homes

20-30 cats are housed at the Happy Cats Shelter in Chorillos and also in Miraflores but there are always more cats than we have space for so temporary homes for days, and/or weeks, are vital.

This is especially true with kittens and mums.

Kittens under 3 months cannot be tested definitively for Leukemia or FIV so it is better to keep them isolated and the best is in a home with no other cats.

Pregnant mums or mums with new born kitten are very easy to look after, and also very rewarding, as for about 2-2 ½ months the mum does everything and need just to be kept safe, warm and fed.

Ther-Happy Cats

We run an innovative program where specially selected very affectionate  and docile cats are placed in old people’s and children’s home and shelters where the residents receive the many benefits of regular animal contact and the cats get lots of love and attention.

In Peru many of these organizations have very limited resources, so Happy Cats covers the costs of food, litter and any incidental veterinary bills.

Donors virtually adopt a Ther-Happy cat and receive regular updates on the cat and the residents they share their life with.

Shelter Cats

Some cats are often very shy or semi-feral and have been traumatized. We have a no kill policy and these cats live as long term residents in our shelter.

You can adopt “virtually” one of our shelter cats and eventually we will have a live Kitty Cam from the shelter so you can log in and see your cat from anywhere with an internet connection. Until then, you can keep up with their progress through our newsletter.
